The Foundation hires new Executive Director
The Anacortes Schools Foundation has hired an executive director to manage the non-profit organization. Marta McClintock officially started in September when she arrived with her family from Idaho. No stranger to this area, McClintock lived in Oak Harbor for eight years while her husband was stationed there. She says they’ve always wanted to end up in Anacortes because of the strong schools and the engaged community.
Most recently, McClintock was the Assistant Dean for the College of Education at the University of Idaho where she worked closely with alumni and friends of the University to raise money for the school. She has been involved educational fundraising for 25 years and was drawn to the ASF position for many reasons, including being the parent of a 7th grader and a high school sophomore.
“It was an automatic for me to want to be involved in the schools. The mission of ASF really appealed to me,” she says. “It’s great to be able to enhance and build on such a strong foundation that, since 1984, has been run strictly by volunteers and has grown to manage $3 million in endowments.”
McClintock hit the ground running, literally, with the Shell Fuel for Education Fun Run last month, which raised close to $40,000. Her goals include learning more about the district and community, getting involved with the work of the board and reaching out to supporters and new donors. She is especially looking forward to Celebrate the Season in December.
“I am excited because I expect Marta, with her experience in fundraising, to help the Foundation as we take on more programs supporting Anacortes students, said ASF President Art Shotwell.“
New initiatives include Early Learning pre-k support and the annual Ready to Learn Fair held ahead of school each summer as well as funding for the After School Arts Program.
