The Manieri Simensen scholarship supports students who are interested in continuing their studies of jazz and jazz education through academic research and/or through active performance during their college years. It is our hope that through these educational efforts jazz will continue to flourish and remain relevant as an indigenous American art form.
This scholarship was established by the The Dominic Manieri Endowment, in memory of Anacortes High School music teacher Ian Simensen who passed in September of 2017 of brain cancer. Simensen built an award-winning band program and helped music flourish throughout Anacortes.
The Manieri Endowment was created as a bequest from the estate of Patricia Manieri in honor of her husband, Dominic, for the purpose of cultivating an ever-growing passion for jazz and swing throughout the Anacortes community.
